Dateline: Dubai February 22-March 3, 2006

I am on my second trip to this amazing and bustling metropolis called Dubai. My workshops had been well-attended. Thanks to the able leadership and organizational skill of the people behind Tango Dubai. Eleanor Brodie, Paul Bradley , Zac, Marnix et.al. You are all superb.
On my first night ,we went to La Parilla at the plush Jumeira hotel, to watch Andres and Viveka, both Argentineans do a tango show with a live band. I've seen them the first time I was here and I would say they did a great performance as always. The Tango Dubai is so lucky to have an existing Argentine tango band at their disposal. For this, they can be an envy of other cities. Also, I wish to acknowledge the indefatigable and gracious Margarita who is the lady behind La Parilla's success. Great dancer. And she can dance honest-to-goodness tango now, to my surprise.

In the workshop, I saw old familiar faces and new ones as well. I am so pleased to see the interest really growing in this city. Rapid I would say. And this of course can be attributed to the fact that aside from Andres and Viveka , there are other teachers who keep the tango aflame . I have the chance to meet this wonderful fellows from Colombia. Husband and wife Cesar and Elizabeth and the very popular Richard.

Tango Dubai has weekly activities going. And one of them is a tango night at the latin bar called Malecon. Every Saturday the tango afficionados and die-hards will meet there and dance their night away.  It is interesting to see how tango, salsa and part disco can mix at this`gathering. The Dubai tangueros can blend well with the salseros and you will just see everyone having great fun dancing, laughing, chatting....

Tonight I will go to Pachanga, another latin restaurant  over at the Marina, and the group will be there to drum-beat tango every Wednesdays. And also to watch Cesar and Elizabeth perform. They are such terrific dancers.

Friday will be my last day and I'll be running through a series of private lessons and workshop from morning till evening and off I go to board my plane at 12 pm  for my next destination.
