Ogie Mendoza
has his own unique and personal style that
unfolds the mystique of tango.
He has travelled to Buenos Aires three
times in 1999,2000 and 2006 and learned from the
great tango masters. Among his teachers are:
PABLO INZA
was a great teacher to Ogie.
Pablo together with
Gladys as first teachers were indeed perfect. Until now, a bulk of
his teachings
in the beginner's
level are anchored on the many things he learned from the estranged
couple.
RICARDO GALLO was man
of few words. But Ogie has great admiration for this teacher with
great
milonguero skill. He derived most of his milonguero style from
"El Pollo" Ricardo.
OMAR VEGA -is the
epitome of milonga for Ogie. It was from him where Ogie unraveled
the
more intricate beat
of the milonga using traspies. A fantastic teacher indeed!
POCHO PIZZARRO - The
master of the broomstick. The quint-essential maestro.
Ogie holds him in
high respect as he has taught him the fundamental elements of
tango with
great detail.
MARIANA GAUNNA & LOREDANA
DE BRASSI- Superb performers! Excellent teachers!
They made Ogie delineate
the line between Salon and Fantasia based on improvisation.
GUSTAVO RUSSO &
ALEJANDRA MANTINAN – Tango rapido! A gem of performers.
Ogie learned so much
about precision and clarity of movement based on clear intention.
Teachers
non-pareille.
CARLOS COPELLO &
ALICIA MONTI – Certified traditionalists. Their tango embrace is one
"to die for." Subtlety in
body lead and "tango al piso" is their greatest contribution to
Ogie’s treasure-throve of
experience.
GUILLERMO MERLO &
FERNANDA GHI– Tangueros ideal! Cool and relaxed. You hardly feel
any pressure when
learning from them. Yet they are so clear and defined in so far as
movement
using the torso and
shoulders are concerned. Ogie learned a great deal from them.
JULIO BALMACEDA &
CORINNA DE LA ROSSA – A match made in heaven. Theirs is a distinct
fluid style moving
with so much ease in true Milonguero fashion. Their penchant for details
concerning lead, follow
and musicality is one of the qualities Ogie has adhered to in his
teachings.
MIGUEL ANGEL ZOTO
- The name is synonymous to tango. A well-rounded artist, he is a
fantastic
performer, milonguero
dancer, show producer. He has an amazing play for traspies and Ogie took
much of this tango
element from this great master.
ROBERTO
HERRERA – Consummate artist. Great performer. Perfect tanguero. One
of the best in
contemporary times. His
execution of clean lines and syncopated rhythms using contra-body
movement is one of the
best inputs to Ogie’s understanding of tango.
GUSTAVO NAVEIRA & GISELLE ANNE – Lovely tango
couple. Brilliant teachers. Their “colgadas”
and
“volcadas” are truly exceptional. Ogie now embarks on a “ tango nuevo”
foray imbibing the many
things
he learned from them.
CARLOS PEREZ – A living testament to the golden
era of tango. He made Ogie understand the
essence
of the dance based on “old world” philosophies.
GLADYS FERNANDEZ – His teacher. His Mentor. He
hold her in high respect. She opened Ogie’s
eyes to
the world of tango.
His other teachers were
Osvaldo Zoto & Lorena Ermocida, Omar Merlo, Mauricio Castro, and
the
teachers who participated
the CITA 2oo6. |
